Epic Swim Tour

Summary

This is a unique opportunity for an unforgettable bespoke swimming holiday. We have hand-picked our favourite locations of Montenegro’s fjords, lakes, and the open sea – many of which are little known to tourists, giving you a chance to swim in off the track places, few have experienced.

During your stay you will be based in Perast, a UNESCO world heritage site, and Montenegro’s most beautiful town. From Perast itself you will undertake two swims, one around the iconic Saint George and Our Lady of the Rocks islands, the other across the Boka Bay, to an idyllic fishing village, Stoliv. Remaining swims are organised on a day trip basis and include a swim around an island famed for its 14th century monasteries in the heart of Skadar Lake on the Albanian border, a swim in turquoise waters of Piva Lake in northern Montenegro and an open water sea swim from Luštica peninsula.

To complete your stay, we will also show you several cultural sites, from the locals’ perspective.

Day 1: Arrival

Our meeting point is Perast. Depending on where you land it’s a 2 hour drive from Podgorica or half an hour drive from Tivat.

Day 2: Saint George and Our Lady of the Rocks

The first swim is from Perast, around the two nearby islands, Saint George Island and Our Lady of the Rocks Island and back to Perast. Roundtrip distance approximately 3 km – optional rest and walk around on one of the islands.

After lunch at the accommodation, you will have some time to relax and explore Perast.

In the evening we plan to hop on the local bus and visit the nearby old town of Kotor (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The view from the fortress at top is spectacular (approx. 45 mins one way) and timed to watch the sunset. The wall walk is optional, but we highly recommend it – the pizza dinner tastes even better after! You’ll have the chance to meander through the cobbled streets and take your pick from a selection of bars to relax and have a drink.

Day 3: Skadar Lake

Travel to a remote village on Lake Skadar, located across the Montenegrin/Albanian border, for a unique swimming experience. The swim will start from the lake’s best beach overlooking the impressive massive mountain of Prokletije, taking you around the nearby island famed for its 14th century monasteries. You will also have a chance to go on a tour of the island and meet the monasteries’ residents. Roundtrip swim distance is approximately 2.5 km

Following the swim we will have lunch at the nearby restaurant, serving the region’s traditional food. On the way back to Perast we will stop at a local winery for some wine tasting.

Day 4: Village Don Stoliv

An early morning swim from Perast across the bay to the village of Donji Stoliv. From here, there is an optional 45-minute (one way) walk to the Church of Gornji Stoliv for aerial views of the bay. Those who opt out of the walk can relax and have a drink on the terrace of a local restaurant. Following the walk/rest we will make our way back, swimming to Perast. Perast – Stoliv round trip is approximately 2.5 km.

After lunch, the afternoon/evening are free to allow for an early night in preparation for day 5.

Day 5: Piva Lake

Early morning departure (by van) to Piva Lake in northern Montenegro. The chosen location on the lake is off the track, giving you the opportunity to experience the true wild beauty of Montenegro. From the departure point, the swim will take us to a remote camping ground. Here we will have a cooked lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing in the shade of the trees. There will be a couple of paddle boards available for an optional paddle around the lake.

The afternoon swim will take us back to the morning’s arrival point from where we would head back to Perast, arriving in the late evening. The round-trip swim distance for the day is approximately 3.5 km.

Day 6: Luštica peninsula

Morning departure from Perast to Luštica peninsula for open water swimming along some of the least constructed and urbanised coast of Montenegro. On this day you will be swimming in crystal clear big blue. The planned swim is a round trip from a remote camping ground to the Blue Cave, Montenegro’s most famous and beautiful marine cave. The round-trip swim distance is approximately 3.8 km.

When back at the campsite, we will have a packed lunch and there will be an opportunity to have a drink at the camp bar. Departure back to Perast is planned for the afternoon. A group farewell dinner will take place in the late evening

Day 7: Departure

On the last day, you can squeeze in an early morning swim! The departure is scheduled for after breakfast.
