Three River Fly Fishing Tour

Summary

This is a once in a lifetime fly fishing holiday that gives you an opportunity to fish for grayling and trout in some of the best, yet least commercial European rivers. For this trip, we have hand-picked our three favourite rivers, each different and characterised by distinct flows, size, transparency, and natural setting, but all found within epic mountainous wilderness.

Day 1: Arrival

Our meeting point is Žabljak. Depending on where you land, it’s a 3 hour drive from Podgorica and a 5 hour drive from Tivat. From here there is another 2 hour drive to Plav – our first fishing location. If, because of the time of your arrival, we are unable to reach Plav by 9pm we would advise that you spend the night locally and travel the next day. If this is the case, please let us know before making the booking and if necessary, we can assist you in finding suitable accommodation for your first night in Montenegro.

On the first night with us, you will stay in a lodge-type accommodation in Plav.

Day 2: Lim and Ljuča rivers

You will spend the day fishing the catch and release sections of rivers Ljuča and Lim. These rivers are the southernmost destinations in Europe for grayling fishing. They are also rich in brown trout and huchen. Grayling are most commonly between 30 and 35 cm long, but 40-55 cm individuals are often captured as well. The size of brown trout usually ranges between 25 to 50 cm. All fish in these rivers are wild and were never mixed with any imported species.

In the evening, we will travel to Pljevlja for an overnight stay in a motel.

Day 3: Ćehotina river

On day three, you will get a chance to fish in two catch and release locations along Ćehotina river. Ćehotina is the third-longest river in Montenegro, rich in brown trout and grayling. The most commonly caught specimens of both species range between 20 and 45 cm.

In the evening, we will travel to Žabljak, for an overnight stay in a motel.

Day 4: River Tara - Section I

In the morning, we will make our way from Žabljak to Tara River. The leg of Tara River fishing will take you on a three-day rafting/canoeing tour through the deepest canyon in Europe, along one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. On the first day, there is a three hour-paddle to the wild camping beach where we will set up camp and fish for the rest of the day.

Wild camping in the canyon provides access to the remotest and least fished sections of the river with an epic backdrop and breathtaking views. These sections are rich in record-sized specimens of grayling, brown trout and huchen.

Day 5: River Tara - Section II

We will depart in the morning for a 3-hour raft/canoe journey to the second wild camping location where we will set up camp and fish for the rest of the day.

Day 6: River Tara - Section III

The morning will be spent fishing before setting off on a 3-hour rafting/canoeing trip to camp Grab, our final stop along the river. The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing in the camp, fishing, or exploring the surrounding nature. Overnight accommodation at the camp is in comfortable mountain lodge-style rooms.

Day 7: Departure

On the last day of the adventure, after breakfast, we will drop you off back to Žabljak.

If you are staying for longer in Montenegro you can always join us on another adventure 😊
