Day Packrafting on Tara River – Balkan Expeditions

Experience a unique adventure on the Tara River with Balkan Expeditions.

Rather than being on a crowded raft navigated by somebody else, you will be in control of your own packraft. This half-day adventure will take you down 12 km of the most exciting and beautifull section of the Tara River, from Splaviste, uder the famous Djurdjevica Tara bridge to the Zugica Luka. You’ll navigate crystal clear rapids while enjoying breathtaking views of one of the most beautiful river canyons in the world. Join us for this exclusive adventure and experience a day of excitement and true happiness!

The meeting point for the adventure is Zabljak city, we are usually picking up our guests from their accomodation.

Please note that you can also come to the starting point directly if you don`t stay in Zabljak.

Part 1: Arrival and packraft introduction

Morning meeting at your accomodation , a short 30 min. drive to the starting point with photo stop at Djurdjevica Tara bridge (one of the most beautifull in the world by National Geographic). Introductions with the team. We will then assign you your packraft and the necessary equipment and demonstrate its setup. You will also be given a brief introduction to paddling and safety aspects of packrafting.

Part 2: Splaviste to Ljutica River

The first session is an approximately 1/2 hour, packrafting, from Splaviste to the Ljutica river. This part of the river is mainly class II rapids and is ideal to get used to the packraft while enjoying the surrounding nature. After the 30 min. warm up paddle we will arrive to the bank of the shortest (only 270m long), stunning and powerful Ljutica river. where we will take a break for swimming , small hike, photo session.

Part 3: Snack time

After the first packrafting session we will refuel our energy with a nice snack and refreshment to prepare us for the next section on the river.

Part 4: Ljutica to Zugica Luka

The second session starts after the snack and is approximately 1:30 hours and 9km long. It’s caracterised mainly by class II and one III rapids and it’s faster, with a number of breathtaking sections. A true adrenaline-lovers’ part of the river!

Part 5: Transfer to Zabljak

After arriving to Zugica luka by the river, we will change our clothes, pack the gear and sit in a van for a transfer back to Zabljak or to your car. However, we hope that you will stay for a chat and a drink at the bar, giving us the chance to sum up the experience. If you are staying in Montenegro for longer, you can always join us on another one 😊
