If you’re looking for a unique way to explore the beautiful country of Montenegro, why not try e-cycling?
Despite being a small, mountainous nation with a rich history, e-cycling is still relatively unknown in Montenegro. But with our recent purchase of Scott Aspect E Ride bicycles, we’re on a mission to change that.
Montenegro offers a wide variety of cycling routes, and our hometown of Nikšić is the perfect starting point. From paved roads to gravel paths, descents, ascents, forests, lakes, and historic sites, there’s something for everyone. And with our e-bikes, you’ll be able to tackle the mountainous terrain with ease.
Our team recently went on our first e-cycling adventure, and we’re excited to share our experience with you. We had two route options:
- Nikšić – Ostrog Monastery – Danilovgrad- Glava Zete – Nikšić
- Nikšić – Vučje – Kapetanovo Jezero – Zagrad – Nikšić
Both routes were approximately 80 km long with a 1600 m elevation gain, but the second option had a higher maximum elevation, making it better suited for warmer weather. As it was winter and our first time on e-bikes, we opted for the warmer option.
Before setting off, we made sure our bikes properly serviced and that the batteries were fully charged. We set off early and were amazed by the experience of e-cycling. Going uphill was a breeze with the aid of our e-bikes, and we raced each other, switching between different assistance levels while taking in the stunning scenery.
We followed our planned route through the Valley of Zeta River, passing over the Carev Most bridge and past Ostrog Monastery. These incredible landmarks are just a small example of the rich history and natural beauty that Montenegro has to offer.
We cycled mostly on auxiliary and unfrequented roads, allowing us to fully enjoy the scenery without worrying about traffic. Overall, the tour was 84 km long and took us 5 hours, and it was moderately difficult.
If you’re a cycling enthusiast or just looking for a fun day adventure, we highly recommend exploring Montenegro by e-bike, just ask us. And if you need more detailed directions, want to do a guided tour, or hire e-bikes, our Balkan Expeditions Team is always happy to help.
