Balkan Expeditions was born out of a passion for adventure and a deep love for nature. Our founder, Gigo is a adventure philosopher who share a commitment to nature conservation. After traveling and experiencing some of the most incredible wilderness, I knew that the stunning landscapes of Western Balkans had to be shared with others. So, I founded Balkan Expeditions to provide bespoke and personal adventures with a minimal environmental footprint. Now we are small, dedicated team, we take pride in offering the best possible experiences for our clients. All of our adventures are carefully selected and personally enjoyed by our team, ensuring that we offer only the most incredible experiences in handpicked locations. Whether you're interested in kayaking, packrafting, canoeing, SUP, mountain trekking, fishing, cycling/e-bike, or ski and snowshoe touring, we have the expertise and passion to make your adventure unforgettable. Gigo
Founder
Gigo, Balkan Expeditions’ lead guide and founder, was born and raised in Montenegro, a place he believes offers unparalleled natural beauty. He is a passionate conservationist and active campaigner for the preservation of the Balkan rivers. Gigo has a degree in philosophy and is a proud father of two little naturalists. He is also the founder of Nature Lovers Montenegro, an environmental NGO. Gigo’s in-depth knowledge of Western Balkans wilderness, history and people and great deal of outdoor experience makes him the perfect guide for adventurers looking to explore this amazing region.
Baki
Tour Guide
Baki, born and raised in Balkan Expeditions’ hometown of Nikšić, has always had a deep love for nature. As a young boy, he joined the scouts and spent countless hours exploring Montenegro’s rugged wilderness, sparking a passion for adventure that has stayed with him ever since. Baki is an IRF rafting guide and a licensed snowboard instructor, with years of experience in both. He is also a seasoned trekking, cycling, jeep safari, whitewater, and sea kayak guide, making him a valuable addition to the Balkan Expeditions team. If you’re lucky enough to have Baki as your guide, we know you’ll have an unforgettable adventure.
Miodrag
Tour Guide
Miodrag ( Mio ) is our newest member in Balkan expeditions company. Born in 1996 in Niksic, from his early age fell in love with nature since most of his early childhood he spent in a mountain village area where his family had a little farm.
During his years at university of tourism and hospitality in Kotor, he got a huge interest at sea activities such as sea kayaking and sup boarding.
Also working in some of the rafting camps at Tara river he realized beauties of spending time in deepest canyon in Europe.
He brought his English to advanced level during few years of working abroad and he oftently says that helped him becoming most talkative person in our team 🙂
Always enjoys showing people beautiful parts of his country, talking passionately about every expedition he do and being a perfect host for all his guests.
He has a huge passion for mountains and sea, which makes Montenegro a perfect home for him.
Ivan
Tour Guide
Born in 1987 and raised in the picturesque town of Nikšić, Ivan’s passion for the great outdoors began at an early age. His journey started with alpine skiing before he even entered elementary school, igniting a lifelong love for winter sports and the majestic mountains.
As a young Montenegrin scout, Ivan developed a love for nature through orienteering. In high school, he took up mountaineering and explored Montenegro's landscapes, eventually becoming a certified rafting guide on its rivers.
Over the years, Ivan has honed his skills in alpine climbing and ski touring, continually pushing his limits and discovering nature from diverse angles. Since 2010, he has proudly served as an active member of the Mountain Rescue Service in Montenegro, embodying a commitment to safety and adventure.
As a seasoned mountain and ski touring guide, Ivan has successfully conquered several high alpine peaks across Europe and South America, sharing his expertise and passion with others. His dedication to the mountains and the thrill of exploration make him an invaluable addition to our team.
